I have an excellent credit history, and can give a landlord or apt manager up to 1yr or 6mos in rent, and I can't find anyone to let me rent from them because I am planning on moving there w/o a job......Can u believe that? What if I moved there with my job, and quit a month later? Or get laid off, or something like that........geesh! As long as the rent is paid, I don't know what difference it makes that I am not working.

I've run into the same problem. Its easier to buy a house in some ways.... I was lucky that my current landlady took a "chance" with me after I showed her my investment account statement. I also think down here they are a little more open minded because of the number of retirees. Even if you offer a large deposit they still don't want to rent to you? Crazy!!

When I moved to Maryland years ago, I did not have a job and really no one would rent me an apartment. I asked my Dad for advice and he told me to give the person who would verify your employment a new crisp $100 bill. It worked, she fudged the paperwork to say I was working. I rented there and a few months later I found a job and everything worked out.

After I gave her a $100 bill, no actual words were spoken except for, "I will work someone out for you, thanks."
