Has anyone been to the newly rebuilt Ocean house in Watch Hill. My wife and I love spending the day on the beach there when we pass through at least once per summer. We vowed to stay in this beautiful place as soon as construction was done. I called over the winter to try to score a good deal as soon as they opened and found that there was nothing to be had for less than $600/night. CRAZY! I was wondering if anyone has stayed or dined there yet.

Steve

Eh, you may want to ask some people from NJ/NY or something.

Ocean House on Watch Hill is beautiful. The architecture, the stairways, the finish work inside and out, the grounds, the beach, the surrounding mansions... stunningly beautiful! We stopped there for an early dinner. A perusal of the menu, indicated a cost over a hundred bucks for the two of us, and I politely told the waiter that was out of our price range and, reluctantly, we would have to move on. He courteously suggested we could relax in the then empty dining room, and enjoy the ambiance if we wished, while we enjoy a complementary coffee and pastry! That was a real class act!

We travel extensively, and we do not know a more stunningly beautiful hotel/resort on the east coast. The hotel business is a small portion of the enterprise. Most of the building is multi-million dollar residences. If I won the lottery, I think I could be very happy spending my summers there. But I don't buy lottery tickets.

I'm really glad they saved the building and how well they salvaged and reused as much as possible from the old structure, but 'tis sadly true, they have priced this place out of the reach of all but the rich. I wonder how many of the rooms are occupied on a nightly basis.

Well I enjoyed East Beach right next-door last weekend but didn't set foot in the Ocean House. Scoping out the beach seemed like a half-full scenario even on a hot and sunny Sunday. Maybe they will realize there are not 80 rooms of folks willing to pay 600/night for a room and we can snap up a room on Hotwire.com. HAHAHA
