The 'illegal' immigrant problem pales in comparison to the bloodbath feuled by illegal drug users in the US. I'm sure the complaints will take a big shift when and god forbid if, the drug wars shift further into this country, as some people predict, or if the economy picks up and underutilized American workers will go back to work, and the floodgates will open for all sorts of labor, legal or not, as has always been the case.

I can not talk on American illegal immigrants but for those who are coming to Europe. It's not as easy as saying: "hey, I love illegals, they should be able to come and take whatever they want to!"
Just to put some examples, they come here and get immediately free sanitary assistance, schools, and in some areas, even a home and money. Do they appreciate that? NO
They come without any intention of being integrated in this society, so problems are there even if you like them or not.
It's not about being selfish, it's about blaming on those who DON't pay taxes, DON'T pay for social security and get all benefits from them.
Another big problem: traffic security. Most of them come from countries where getting a driving license is as easy as trading them for a basket full of potatoes or even worse, they are able to drive a car without license.
Do you want to know how many people is being injured or even killed on highways and roads due to people like this who (hey, we can make it even worse) don't have any insurance? So, you can get hitted by one of these "gentlemen", get injured for the rest of your life and dont' get a dime for it because that "gentleman" had no car insurance.
I am planning myself to move to Texas from Europe. And yes, it's not easy to get a green card. But I want to go there and FEEl American, get my American flag and wave it proudly as a way to say thank you to a country that is receiving me as one of its sons/daughters.
Dunno why some people keeps defending illegal immigration. No matter why people goes out of their countries! There is only ONE way to make things the right way and it's making them LEGALLY. For everybody's benefit starting immigrant's.

Integrated how? Last I recall the U.S. does not have a official legal language, and because someone is speaking a foreign language in public does not confirm their citizen status. My old neighbor speaks fluent Italian and can barely muster a few English words without the thickest of accents, has she Integrated? does someone living in the woods "Unabomber style" be consider Integrated? This is the United States and I'm free to be as Integrated as I want.
It's not about being selfish, it's about blaming on those who DON't pay taxes, DON'T pay for social security and get all benefits from them.
so they don't pay sales taxes? or if they are renting the landlord gives them a break on real estate taxes? Illegal immigrants cannot receive welfare or social security so you are incorrect stating that they "get all" the benefits of them. A lot of wealthy people don't pay social security taxes either because they can pay themselves outside of a payroll either, but I digress.

How many?

For thousands of years people have been able to move to other countries to better their economic and social experience. As someone who believes in meritocracy, capitalism, and that laws should be enacted for the good of the people, their isn't any real argument against allowing people into the country.

In that case, be prepared to put up with a lot more illegal immigration!

I grew up in Kent County and attended grammar school in the 60's. Many of you may remember the large influx of Portuguese to our communities from the Azores. The kids attended our schools and learned English. They also helped to teach English to their parents and grand parents. They moved into our neighborhoods and tried real hard to fit in. They went out of their way to be actively a part of our communities. Many of my childhood friends were these same kids. We didn't care that someones parents had an accent because they welcomed us into their homes and families with open arms. I can still remember the taste of Tony's momma's Portuguese sweet bread! Hmm, hmm, good.
This is not the case with the illegal immigrants of today. Or should I be more PC and refer to them as undocumented democrats? They hide behind their Spanish whenever it's convenient. Many actually expect us to assimilate to them! Go figure. They are an insult to every immigrant that did it the right way. My Great Grandparents came over from Eastern Europe in the early 1900's and were proud to become Americans. BTW, they also learned English in order to be able to communicate with their new neighbors. But I am glad she kept and passed on some of the recipes from the old country though.
Boy that woman could work magic with cabbage!

Nice anecdote, but I know people from Portugal/Azores whom still don't speak English and will speak Portuguese to around non-native speakers as well. Not that I find anything wrong with that since It's a free country, but stop pretending that the groups of the past are somehow better than the ones coming in now.
As a matter of fact If you still lived in RI, which luckily for the good people here you don't, you'd see that english learning classes at packed to the brim with Spanish speakers.
It's true when they say history rhymes, as people immigrating decades ago were told they weren't as hardworking/good as the ones whom came before them and encountered hostility, and as history shows you are guaranteed to be on the wrong side

Are we pressing 2 for Italian? German? Gaelic? Russian? I know in RI and even up here in Mass, the number of illegals from Brazil is over 60% and Portuguese is spoken more in certain areas than Spanish.
Yes, this is a free country but our language is English. Don't try to pretend you don't know that. We have states such as MO where English is the official language. What those people are doing is trying to colonize this country all over again and they know exactly what they are doing.
The groups from the past came through Ellis Island. That right there says a lot about what kind of immigrants, human beings they were. The ones coming now are always waiting for a handout and when they don't get their way they waste no time calling Americans bigots, racists and they protest until they get what they want... As if they were entitled to everything this country has to offer. Their lack of respect for our country is enough to make me dislike them. And I am not the only one who feels that way.
I speak 3 languages in addition to English and I speak them because I had to learn them when I moved to countries where they are spoken. Do you think I expected people to cater to my needs?
Those people made the CHOICE to come here, why do we need to bend over and backwards to accommodate them?

Just last Friday I had two Undocumented Democrats apply for a position we had open with our company. No social security cards, no birth certificates and no green cards. I promptly threw their A$$E$ out of the office and filled the position with a US Citizen. Quite frankly I am glad I am no longer surrounded by Leftist *******s!

My dream is to leave Mass. I want to raise my 4 month old daughter somewhere else but too bad my family cannot afford to pack up and move. Until then we are surrounded by bleeding hearts who refuse to see where this country is headed.......downhill.
