Hi,

Where are the best neighborhoods in RI? We are a young couple looking for an active neighborhood. Our budget is 350,000. Looking for something like the eastside (e.g. walkable, restaurants) but more affordable. Currently looking in edgewood but not much to offer.

Thanks in advance and happy new year!

Last I checked Garden City and Dean Estates were suburban and not walkable to amenities in the same way as the East Side.

These are beautifully maintained and walkable shopping centers fairly adjacent to each other, and within walking distance from Dean Estates as you can see from the map. Chapel View is the newest development, no residential homes in there, but large condos. On each site there is a list of shops, restaurants, activities, etc.

Garden City and Dean Estates are wonderful family neighborhoods, and within good proximity to interstates and the airport, and highway access to all the Rhode Island beaches.

Hope this helps.

You may also find Barrington to your liking, there is a quaint "downtown" with several small shops, more in the old fashioned tradition. No major name stores, however. Barrington neighborhoods are very walkable, and very family oriented.

I don't know what your definition of "walkable neighborhood" is but it sure isn't the commonly accepted version and the one realtors use.

You can walk in most any neighborhood but I'm sure they are looking for a dense area which has stores and restaurants integrated into the community- as they said- like the East Side.

Garden City is a nice strip shopping center but it is totally car oriented in terms of getting there. Chapel View is out of their price range.

Sure you can walk on Barrington's streets but it is an automobile suburb.

If you can afford it, East Greenwich!

If you can comfortably afford 350K, then your best choices would be Lincoln, Barrington, Bristol, East Greenwich, or any of the beach communities.

What is east greenwich like? it seems like it would be a stuffy/snobby area (I'm from CT.. want to avoid that!). we jusy expanded our search to gaspee and governor francis in warwick. what are those areas like? and are they on the flood plains?

thanks so much for all your help!
