My fiance and are are planning to move to the Providence area within the next couple of months. I have been researching apartments on Craigslist and found one that seems nice. However, I will not be able to see the surrounding area until we move so I need some help. The property is located on the East side of Providence, on Governer St. walking distance to Brown Universtiy in College Hill. Can anyone give me some information about the area?
My Fiance and I are working professionals with no kids and are just looking for something temporarily until we are able to buy a home. How safe is this area? We would be parking our cars on the street, would I have to worry about break-ins and that sort of thing? Even though the situation is temporary, safety is still an issue for me. Can anyone give me any info?

No. Most of that area is very upscale and yuppyish. If you have a number on Governor St. It would be more helpful though. Also, you could always call the Providence Police and ask how safe the area is.

It's a pretty nice area to live. I wouldn't be really worried too much about safety concerns there. What I would check out though is if your rental comes with any designated parking. Be aware that there's an overnight parking ban active within the city of Providence. Not only can that become an issue, but actually finding a parking spot anywhere close to your home, especially on the East Side, might be tricky.

Good luck.

Another great place to look for rentals is rentprov (.com). They have all price ranges and all sizes.
