Hi,
Anyone here commute from Providence to Kingston? I'll be attending University of Rhode Island would consider commuting from Providence if the commute isn't that bad. Considering doing the commute just gives me more options in regards to housing for the year. Any kind of info would greatly be appreciated.

It's about 45 mins, more in bad weather. Not the worst of commutes, but definitely not worth it I think. I lived a half hour away in grad school and regreted it. The Providence area's moderately affordable neighborhoods aren't really that nice, for one- not bad, but not overly nice. When you could find something nicer a lot closer- Newport, Narragansett, North Kingstown, South Kingstown, Warwick, without the commute.

I agree with living closer, but not in Newport - you want to pay a toll everyday to cross the bridge ($40/mth)?

Thanks for the input guys. Been a little frustrated in finding housing close to URI so commuting from Providence came to mind. Will definitely stay close to URI then. Thanks again.

Default Commuting to Kingston

I work in Kingston and they are correct it's 45 minutes if no traffic from Providence---can't always count on that. However, there are lots of beautiful communites like Warwick, East Greenwich, North Kingstown (which encompasses Wickford) south of Providence. Even the Garden City area which is very very busy with shops and restaurants is south of Providence...all will cut 15 to 25 minutes off your commute and have cheaper rents, and are safer areas than Providence.

Default RIPTA bus to URI ?

I seem to recall there is a RIPTA bus that goes right into the URI campus. You have to check where it originates etc.

This may help: http://www.uri.edu/parking/kingcon.html

This may help: Kingston Connection
It's the 66 bus It starts, as I guess all routes do, at Kennedy Plaza. The only problem with the 66 is it gets plenty crowded in the summer with beachgoers going to Galilee, but I've seen lots of URI kids on the line.
