Is Portsmouth a nice place for a family (Providence, Newport: real estate, renting)

I'm a native New Yorker lived here my whole life but have been offered a job on an upcoming construction project around the braga memorial bridge, began looking in the area but couldn't find much in the renting market in mass and to be honest the few real estate agents I talked to in somerset and Swansea seemed less than thrilled to help me, however while browsing the web I happened upon a few houses in Portsmouth and Middletown that looked nice but have not been able to find out much about the area itself, I am married with 2 children an 2 yr old son and 1 yr old girl both enjoy being outdoors and love other children not really sure if this a family area or not so any info would be appreciated thanks

Great place for a family. Safe, quiet. Of course there are nicer neighborhoods in Portsmouth and some more congested and not as desirable but not unsafe.

Close to Newport without all of the tourists, close to Providence.

In my opinion, a better choice than Swansea or Somerset but I prefer RI over MA. Not a fan of Fall River. I was born in MA and lived there until my late 20's. Have been in the Newport/Portsmouth area since 1990.

Both are very family friendly towns with good school districts should you be here that long!
