Hi Rhode Islanders, my friends and I from CT are thinking of taking a last minute mini vacation to Rhode Island for 1 night. We've been to Block Island and loved it, but were considering going to Westerly/Watch Point this time instead. I'm wondering if that's a cute/nice beaches/vacationy spot to go to? Does anybody have any other suggestions? We've been to Newport and are more interested in nature/beaches/charming towns than mansions for this trip. Thank you!
Yes Misquamicut does still have a little cleaning up to do but most of the major damage has been attended to. Just went the other week and the place looks surprisingly good for what happened last year.
Location: says MA on my license but can be found wandering the beaches of RI

I just spent some time in the Matunick area as well as Watch Hill/Westerly. I've seen pictures just post-Sandy and after having just visited, I am amazed and impressed by all of the obvious hard work that has gone into rebuilding.
I say a big yay for Rhode Island because, from a born and raised Mass resident, you have an absolutely gorgeous state.
Recent beaches have been Moonstone and Napatree and there is something to be said for untouched beaches with their natural surroundings. They were both breathtaking in their own way, the Piping Plovers are amazing to watch, and the wild growth in the sand dunes is beautiful. The water further down on Napatree was clear down to my toes and that was in waist high water!
Was also at Ocean Mist (Matunick) and Windjammer (Westerly) and both are up and running as if nothing happened. Great food at Ocean Mist and soooo relaxing sitting outside facing the ocean at the Windjammer.

Yes I was also at Matunick for a bit and the beach is very relaxing they are not lying about the mist either those waves are incredible! I am very glad to see all of the peaceful villages along the shoreline back up on there feet so quick as well. Great little area over there to get away from the hectic city life
