So I've tried many of the options like Craigslist, Oodle, and freecycle. Sadly, no one from Craigslist, Uloop, or Oodle seems interested (even though I renewed severaltimes). Several in freecycle have expressed interest, but people can be incredibly flaky, and I'm started to get concerned that I might not be able to get my mattress+bedframe sold or donated by July 31st (which is when I have to vacate my apartment).
Does anyone know of any other options for selling/donating/getting rid of furniture? I've tried calling the charities (like Salvation Army) regarding pickup, but many of them won't do pickup, or require an advance notice of a couple of weeks, which is too late for my mattress.
I've also tried a Brown listserv and several Facebook groups. They've been great for selling most of my other items, but few have expressed interest in my bedframe or mattress at all.
I'm not strong enough to get rid of my furniture by myself and I don't have a car. It's also sad because the mattress+bedframe are just 1 year old and still in very very good condition.
If you can get it outside, post it on CL and Freecycle that it is there, and it will most likely be gone quickly. Some people (myself included) wouldn't want to go into someone's house, even for free stuff, but would take it if it was outside already.
Used mattress will be tough, I actually believe it is illegal for you to sell it until it's sterilized. That's probably why most charities won't come grab it, they don't want to deal with that. Some regulation in Chapter 23-26-5 or 7.
If the charities won't pick it up I guess you need to find some friends to get it to the dump for you.
Waste Management will pick up large items for free with your trash collection. You have to call to request a pick up and obviously bring it to the curb. The number is on the Providence website.

Check with local animal shelters. I recently learned they LOVE getting blankets/comforters/pillows/towels (at least most do). Mattresses not so sure but here are a few to contact:
The Salvation Army will pick up for free if in good condition.
