I imagine RI got rid of the sales tax on alcohol simply to compete with neighboring states.

When I lived in various other places, we got used to buying wine and beer in the supermarket. NE is very traditional on the antique blue laws.



I wonder if eliminating the sales tax on art will really encourage sales?

I doubt it since it's mainly the affluent who purchase art. They were going to spend the dollars anyway. Now they'll just spend less and sit on it. It won't help the economy whatsoever. The alcohol tax being lifted just might help shore up folks to buy other things. (Although even there it is only for wine and spirits, not beer. So maybe that affect will be minimal as well.)
