I may be relocating to Smithfield to work at Fidelity. What is the area like?

Smithfield is a nice rural community.
There are also surrounding communities that may also be good to consider....
Scituate is nearby
North Smithfield is quite rural....I grew up there. I didn't like it as a kid (not enough to do) but as an adult I can see that differently.

It all depends what you're looking for.
House prices in these areas may have come down but they're still not cheap by any means.

Thumbs up I am a 8 year resident of Smithfield and...

My family and I moved to Smithfield RI in December of 2000. It is a nice rural community right off of Rt 295. During the past 8 years the town has changed a bit. Now there is a bit more to do around town with the new Smithfield Crossing Mall, and many new restaurants in town you don't have to go far to have access to shopping, movies and good food. Community recreation amenities like tennis courts, swimming at the Smithfield "Y", Town Private beaches are all within a short drive away.

My advice is to stay away from the properties on the inside of the RT295. That is not the best part of town, there are many commercial and industrial areas there.

Smithfield USED to be rural, until Route 44 became a shopping mall and companies like Fidelity decided to locate there (though Fidelity does have a nice, eco-friendly campus compared to other office parks).

The Fidelity campus is located very closely to Rte 295, so you can commute easily from other towns. However if you like rural living you wil be close to northern RI and a rural lifestyle that's still close to many amenities...
Burrillville, Pascoag, Chepachet....

I was up there for an interview a couple of weeks ago, Fidelity is putting in a new building there, the third one.
