"Governor" Chafee pushing for illegal aliens drivers licenses

All I know is that there were THOUSANDS of criminals lined up at the DMV here in early January to get their driving cards. What used to be a 1 hour or less trip to do business with the DMV has turned into 6-8 hours. I don't envy RI DMV patrons should this pass.

I don't drive a car so I have no idea how insurance works, but don't you need a license to get auto insurance? Without insurance, what happens if an "illegal" totals your car? Doesn't that affect insurance rates for all drivers? I ask because I don't know.

I carry uninsured motorist coverage for just such an occasion.

Definition: Uninsured motorist coverage provides an individual with protection through his or her own insurance policy in the event that a person who caused an accident or injury is uninsured or underinsured. According to Rhode Island law, an insurance company is required to offer uninsured motorist coverage in an amount equal to the insured individual’s liability limits. However, the insured person has the option to reject uninsured motorist coverage, or to elect to have it for an amount lesser than the amount of liability coverage.
