I hate to say it but I agree with the OP on most accounts. The cost of living(taxes up the wazoo!), the weather(clouds on clouds on clouds!) and the mickey mouse way they do things around here just drive me nuts. I was born and raised here. Lived up north in Pawtucket/Cumberland/North Providence when I was going to school and in my 20's. I've been raising my family in South County for the past decade.

Maybe it's my age or maybe it's just years of being bored and overtaxed here but I honestly can't stand living here anymore. Providence does nothing for me. I find it ghetto and a hassle to drive up 95 to get to on most days. It was fun when I was in my 20's and hitting the bars/clubs but now it's just an eye sore with not much to do especially for a family imo. But, hey, different strokes for different folks.

My biggest pet peeve with this state is the mickey mouse way they do things. Twin River and this new eye sore in Tiverton? Give me a break. They were dead set against Harrah's coming in here and building a state-of-the-art casino as gambling was "bad" and would "bring crime" but that hasn't stopped them from expanding that ugly thing they call a casino(LOL!) in Lincoln or it's ugly sister down in Tiverton. Please. Either build a real deal casino with top notch restaurants, entertainment and hotel rooms or call it a day. Everything this state does is half assed and a mickey mouse operation. I make it a point to spend as much money as I can outside of this state on principle alone(gas, entertainment, food, gambling, liquor, airfare, you name it).

Another pet peeve is the attitude's on the state and city workers. Anyone own a house and go down to their local town hall to pull a permit??? Good lord. The workers act like their face would break in half if they smiled and they treat you like a criminal as if you are going to build a 5 story addition to your house instead of simply finishing a basement. Hoops on hoops on hoops to jump thru to get anything done in this state. That's just for a home owner nevermind a business.

This place has been run by the same group of clowns for decades now. It only gets worse. I can't wait to leave.

So where is this "paradise" people are running to?

We just moved to retire in this state (Barrington) from MA...guess we are brain dead...but enjoying the egrets, swans, osprey, sailboats coming into harbor in eve, and the stunning sunsets. It doesn't have the hils/mountains but so far it has been enjoyable.

Agreed. Great choice for retirement or any stage of life. Barrington is is indeed beautiful. Unfortunately, everybody can't afford to live in Barrington.
