Hello,
I'm taking a great job in New London, CT this summer. As a single 26M, I like the area but am concerned about the lack of a dating scene and young professionals in New London and surrounding areas. Plus, I like urban living.

I'm looking at renting in PVD. The only way I would consider commuting from Providence is by train. I enjoy city life and have the ability to get a majority of my transit costs covered (~$400 for monthly amtrak ticket) from Providence.

I would be commuting 4-5 days a week, so not everyday, but a majority. My question is, is this feasible or am I crazy?

Is Westerly a viable alternative, even in the winter? I've looked at New Haven, but with most trains stopping in Old Saybrook is a big negative.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Steve

No doubt Providence is the best closest city to you for singles. It would be a bit of an effort but not crazy to commute on the train. I'd advise you to look at downtown living so you could walk from the train station and make life a little easier. Only other alternatives I could think of would be Westerly and perhaps Newport.
Hartford isn't going to be great for nightlife and West Hartford is suburban.
