My husband and I are legal permanent residents. We are coming to the USA (to Providence) in July (for the first time) with a German Shepherd. This means that we have no credit history and no work, but we have money for several months of rent and wish to find a job as soon as possible. The dog is obedient, not aggressive, friendly towards other pets, neutral towards people. It turned out to be very difficult to find a house with our dog. Maybe someone here can suggest a place where we could stay or give us some advice?

What you describe is "risk" to a landlord. I'm sure with a pet deposit large enough to cover the risk, you will find a house (rather than apartment) to rent in Providence. The rental market has become increasingly pet friendly, by necessity. More people come with pets attached and landlords ignore this at their own financial peril. However, the rental market in Providence is tight, with prices up, so you may have to be flexible regarding location. The no credit or work history part may be your larger problem. Good luck!
Thank you, let's hope we'll find something. It's rather difficult now because we have no opportunity to phone, and many landlords (I even can say the majority of landlords) do not respond by email. I believe it would be easier when we come to the USA, but we would be happy to find a house to live in before our arrival.

Absolutely. No jobs mean can paying more than a few months upfront if you can even find someone to take you on. You might consider a temporary place without the dog first to establish your jobs.
The difficulty with your dog.. is his/her breed. Many insurance companies do not allow their policy holders to have particular breeds in their rentals.
Yeah, I already know that... I've read somewhere that I need a place that doesn't refer to Homeowners' Association. As far as I understand, all apartments refer to HOA, am I right? Or if people lease their own apartment, it doesn't belong to HOA? Does anybody know?

Renting a house with a yard is your best bet by far for all involved, especially the dog.

In RI you will run into very few HOAs. Much of the housing here is old and urban. You will just find very few landlords who will want to take a large German Shepard, however you may luck out if you rent in a less than desirable area. But really, as we've said it's more of an issue that you have no job.
Agree with Hollytree. You may be getting lost in the weeds about the large dog issue. You're biggest concern might be coming to RI with no job. Not a great idea.
