SW was always my "go to" for flights out of PVD.. hell.. out of LAS, too. But they just aren't as competitive anymore, even with the free bags.

SW is cutting all routes, it seems, which is odd when they've expanded. There used to be a non-stop PVD-LAS that we used often. It was cheap, and left PVD at 6:30a. The return flight got in at 10:30 or 11:00p. Perfect.
Providence needs to emulate Las Vegas. We've got a convention center. We've got strip clubs. In Vegas, the casinos throw open the doors and blast the AC to suck you in for relief from the Sun's Death Rays. In Providence, casinos could throw open the doors and blast the heat to suck you in to save you from freezing to death in the Arctic Apocalypse. Might melt some of that snow too!

Apparently the airport isn't too busy so flying in/out shouldn't be a problem.

The more competition on routes, the lower you'll find prices.

You also have to know how to price individual sectors.........to really find the best prices.

For years, it was several hundred dollars cheaper to fly to Germany from PVD via PHL on US Air... then it was to fly nonstop US Air/Lufthansa codeshare from Boston. US Air wanted to fill those flights out of PHL........so the originating and end PVD sectors.......were basically no charge except for airport landing fees.

What has hurt PVD the most........the Continental/United Merger.......and to a lesser extent the American/US Air merger. Busted up the two largest existing codeshare partners for PVD.

The NW/Delta merger really screwed our capacity to the northwest and Alaska.

Jan 2015 enplanements were up out of PVD for the first time in recent memory. Locals are afraid to fly out of Boston in the winter...I don't expect to see the increase continue after 1st qtr.

Exactly.........you can't touch anything less than $360 to Vegas from JAX anymore., and that is a hard to grab flight. I still like the flexibility of being able to cancel my flight and rebook with no fees along with the two free bags.

I am on Southwests email list and I keep getting those lead ins for $73 one ways.........about the only flight I can get that fare is to fly in state

We used to fly a lot for leisure but have cut back a bit......this past October the wife flew into Logan when visiting family in Chepachet..........our first time ever flying into Logan in order to get to RI.......flight was better than $125 dollars cheaper a ticket going into Logan over Green.

I really believe that once Southwest took over Air Trans and captured those gates that they did not have before it changed their whole business model.

I don't blame you; and would have done the same thing. Haven't been to LAS in several years; it was always fun to drive to A/City from RI and stop overnight in NY for a play and din din. But I love Vegas, even in the summer.
