There's been a lot of traffic lately on 95 North due to pothole patching during the day. Does anyone know any ways around this? I need to get to 195. If I'm driving towards Raynham for instance I usually take 195 East exit and then get off on Exit 4/44 E Taunton. I then get on 44 East towards Taunton. Even without traffic, is there a better way?

Where are you experiencing the traffic on 95N? You do not say where you are coming from, nor where the problem has been. If it is between Roger Williams Park and 195, then you could conceivably take Rt 10 North to 95 S to 195E. That would bypass the area.

I prefer 195E to 44 to the 495 route. It feels faster to me.

I would think the pothole patching should be coming to a close soon.

Thank you. That's what I thought. Route 10. I take Route 10 to bypass Elmwood/Broad when going to the West End. I usually get off on Exit 5. Never used it further than that. So it must be the last exit for 95 South. I will try that. This is good to know, though... even when the pothole traffic ends. Anytime there's a traffic warning. I'm coming from Southern RI and driving 95 North. Yes, the traffic was from Exits 18-23.

I should say Route 10 N to Route 6 East, as Route 10 N officially ends where it ties into Route 6 East. Where Route 6 T's into 95, Route 6E follows Route 95S and runs concurrently with it until joining up with 195E.

Let me know if you find Rte 10 any faster, but in my experience the traffic jam right after the Westminster St exit and before the 95 and downtown exits are never worth it. 95 slows down around Thurbers Ave, but not as slow as that.

Route 6 coming into the city can be pretty bad. How about Thurbers to Allens Avenue as an alternate?

The part in bold, above, is possibly true depending upon time of day, but I disagree that it is never worth it. The problem is to know, a priori, whether it is worth it. One has to do a little empirical research, but even then you are trading in probabilities. There is no question but that lane jumpers will exacerbate highway interchange congestion, and this problem plagues the Route 6/ I-95 interchange. But most going Rte 10 N/Rte 6E are heading north. It is possible to take advantage of this.

I've done both, and under certain times of day I have found the Rte 10/6 route amendable, particularly when traffic reports indicate a backup at Thurbers. One must, through on-the-ground experience, suffer through a bit of each scenario to make any sense of it. And even then it is a guessing game.
