I thought I would throw this out here, although it's still over a year away. My grad school daughter, currently at Tufts will be doing a fieldwork assignment for 3 months starting in January 2017 in Providence. She'll need to find temporary housing from January-April of 2017. Last night she mentioned that she spoke to current students doing this assignment and they said it wasn't easy to find a place to stay for only 3 months in Providence. Most of them commute from other areas. So now she's thinking of bringing her car from CA. for sure if she'll have to commute. She had brought it up earlier. I'm not fond of that idea. Her car will be 15 years old by then. But, ultimately, it's her choice. Just so she knows what it entails.
Does anyone have some ideas where she might sublet or rent a room for just 3 months? I was thinking perhaps maybe students from Brown University. I'm not sure if Airbnb or other rental agencies might have monthly rentals in the area. Again, it's rather premature, but it's nice to have tips and advice for when she'll need a room.
She's very busy right now so I thought I might be able to get some ideas here to share with her.
I would concentrate on the college angle. Five colleges have their main campus in the city. Brown, RI School of Design, and Johnson & Wales Univ are located in the downtown area. Providence College and RI College are in more suburban parts of the city. I would think Brown and RISD probably have the most full-time grad students. You might want to start with them.
I'd check with the University Housing office first. They'll have listings from landlords looking for grad students.
