So thankful to live in this gritty, ancient city. There are things that, were I running the joint, I'd do differently, but not much. We're a poor city, but we should be embarrassed by the architectural richness of Providence.

I hope to meet Mr. Buff Chace some day and thank him for his vision, for what he did with Westminster. The man is brilliant, and he clearly loves this place I call home.

True, Westminster is probably the prime post-Buddy success story.

Yeah, it's what every self respecting street should aspire to be. Nice, good quality bricks, classic circular cobblestone patterns at intersections, festive (though not always working) string lights overhead, a couple dozen great architectural works, and some interesting shops. Only one lane of active traffic so it's not pedestrian unfriendly. It works very well. Definitely a victory for urban taste and authenticity.

Washington Street has possibilities, too.

Christmas time is here
Happiness and cheer
Fun for all that children call
Their favorite time of the year

Snowflakes in the air
Carols everywhere
Olden times and ancient rhymes
Of love and dreams to share

Sleigh bells in the air
Beauty everywhere
Yuletide by the fireside
And joyful memories there

Christmas time is here
Families drawing near
Oh, that we could always see
Such spirit through the year

Beautiful photos!!! In the 60's my late father worked as a maintenance supervisor for an insurance company located in the Turk's Head Building. Following his death when my sister and I were cleaning out our parent's home as our mother passed away several years prior we came across a coffee cup with saucer embossed with the Turk's Head logo which came from the Turk's Head Club that somehow fell into my our father's possession. The engraving on these pieces of china note they were manufactured by the Shenago china company, and the cup was made in 1923 and the saucer 1928. Interestingly, my father was born in 1923 and my mother 1928, and I often wondered if my father was ever aware of this info. This forever will remain of mystery but glad I have these unusual keepsakes.
