bad because of Boston? No it does fine by itself. After 2 pm traffic starts building up on the interstates. And this is summer, it gets worse once the school seasons start. Public transit bus routes? Many people use them, not as many as there should be, but some 60,000 a day use the system. I second the Armory area.
Ah thank you . I was just suorised how bad that traffic was I wasn't expecting it on a random Friday afternoon when most people are at work .
I enjoyed the mall that was unreal and the downtown was very clean and unique .
I usually use pad mapper for apartment searches but overall how would I look up the " armory " area ?
As well as the area by the zoo seemed very run down , public transit bus routes and people down on their luck everywhere .
Providence isn't a big city, but like any metro area it has a public transit system. Buses run through all kids of neighborhoods - rich and poor; urban, suburban, and even rural; and routes stretch all the way to Newport, Westerly, and Burrillville at the extreme corners of the state. A bus route isn't an indication of poverty.
OP, I'd recommend you look into Fox Point as well. Definitely compatible with your price range. I spent some time there this past weekend, and it was happening. Made me remember why I fell in love with Providence in the first place. Providence is pretty walkable, and depending on where you are and where you're going, you could walk downtown from there.
I happen to think the traffic in Providence is pretty mild compared to most cities. I don't know where the comment about the interstates clogging up at 2 p.m. came from -- I've never seen any traffic around here at that time, barring a big accident or something.

Fridays during the summer in early afternoon is often when it really gets bad as people are driving to the coast for the weekend.
