Ruggerio ordered to pay restitution in car damage
NewspaperFebruary 3, 1990 | Providence Journal (RI)
Page: A-19 | Section: NEWS
State Sen. Dominick J. Ruggerio was ordered yesterday to pay restitution and to stay away from a Lincoln businessman who said Ruggerio scratched his 1986 Mercedes-Benz with a key.
Ruggerio, 41, the deputy president pro tem of the state Senate, appealed the ruling by District Court Judge O. Rogeriee Thompson to Superior Court.
After a trial, Ruggerio was found guilty on a misdemeanor charge of malicious damage to property.
However, Judge Thompson agreed to file the case for one year, which means that the charge will be dismissed if Ruggerio, D-Providence, stays out of trouble and pays restitution.
According to police reports, Ruggerio was accused of causing some $1,00 9damage for gouging a long scratch in the company car of Nandy N. Sarda, the owner of Durastone Inc., at the company parking lot in Lincoln.
Sarda told police that Ruggerio, who is also a field representative for the Rhode Island Laborers' District Council, arrived at the company headquarters on Sept. 15 to discuss union matters.
Sarda told police that after he said he was unable to meet with Ruggerio, Ruggerio walked out into the parking lot and gouged the company vehicle with a key.

Mattiello one ups Ruggerio. He thinks only the constituents of his Cranston district should be the final decision maker for all projects in RI. Local town/city support elsewhere for a project in their community does not matter. Western Cranston should decide all matters for the state in the opinion of Mattiello. If they (Western Cranston) don't want something anywhere around RI, legislators elected from all around the state should not even be given a chance to vote on it.
Anyone who hates this idea has an opportunity today to do something- There is strong opposition and there will be a meeting tonight!!
As Providence Preservation Society states....
The proposal as it stands defies universal urban planning and preservation principles, namely:
It requires SPOT ZONING, unnecessary and perhaps illegal favoring of a single parcel.
The SCALE is wrong for this parcel.
It does not benefit the life of the STREETSCAPE nor the PARK.
Taxes and construction jobs are important! Those can be achieved by a large development on a more appropriate parcel. Remember the approved proposals for 110 Westminster Street and the former Police and Fire site?
Please join PPS at the City Council Chamber TONIGHT (Monday, October 22 at 5:30 pm). This will be a public hearing, so we encourage everyone to attend and make your voice heard. Read below for guidelines on testifying.
Public Comment 101
Speaker sign ups begin at 5 pm. Arrive early to claim your seat!
When you arrive at the hearing, sign (legibly) the sheet in the middle of the room if you would like to make a public comment. NOTE: there will likely be 2 sign-up sheets. Sign the one in OPPOSITION of the zoning changes.
When your name is called, proceed to the table in front of the committee. State your FIRST and LAST NAME and STREET ADDRESS before you make your comment.
The acoustics in City Council Chamber are poor, so speak clearly and confidently into the microphone. It's ok to be nervous- you will not be the only one! It is perfectly acceptable to say that you are opposed to the zoning changes for the reasons stated by the people who spoke before you.
Can't attend the meeting? Help us reach 1,000 signatures on our petition to let the City Council and Mayor know that we want them to abide by the rules, rather than let them be trampled by vested interests.

I'm actually surprised this thing isn't dead yet given how it's been received.
