Tripadvisor lists Lemongrass in Warwick as being up there in ratings in reviews.
Menu is described as mixed Asian, Thai, Chinese, etc.
I haven't been to Lemongrass and I don't know anyone that has. If I recall correctly, several years back, it was on some top 50 Chinese restaurants in the US list. I looked at the menu and yelp reviews/pictures, and I wasn't very impressed. It may be good, but it's not really a Chinese restaurant. I don't think it's what you're looking for ("a standout example of a traditional Chinese restaurant").
So we are heading home for the holidays and reading these posts I don't see a standout example of a traditional Chinese resturant that everyone can agree on. I had thought on one of the other posts several had mentioned a place in Cranston.
I certainly will be catching up on my seafood, my little mom and pop hole in the wall resturants and my family's traditional French meat pies but here in Florida in my area we have nothing but strip mall Chinese take out and it is nothing to write home about.
I remember a few places in RI we used to visit many, many years ago that were great. One was on Resivour Avenue, one on Bald Hill Road in Warwick and one on Main Street in East Greenwich and I think one in downtown Westerly. They all had traditional Chinese decour and great food.
Any input would be appreciated. Merry Christmas
Im betting Bald Hill Road was Tai Dee Garden (?) Did I remember that name right? That was my first exposure to Chinese as a child and it was popular in my family for special occasions.
Ironically, the Reservoir Ave location was probably Four Seasons, which isn't traditional Chinese. But wait - maybe it was the red building closer to Park Ave that has a martial arts studio now? I think it used to be Cathay Garden?
I think the one on Bald Hill Road was closed years ago. We used to go there in the mid-80's. They had those great drinks like the Suffering Bastard. It was right near the top of the hill on the left heading south almost across from the big liquor store on the right (Haxtons?).
Tai Dee Garden. It was quite nice and quite large compared to most strip mall takeaway joints
We have a big meal planned for Christmas and with all the cooking going on I could not talk anyone into going out for Christmas Eve. I wanted to try either Hong Kong in Cranston or the in-laws mentioned Asia at Lincoln mall.
We wound up going to Tin Tsin in North Smithfield for take out. It was okay but not much different from what we have located in our strip malls back home in Florida.
Location: RI, MA, VT, WI, IL, CA, IN (that one sucked), KY
