Man had barricaded himself inside the house after attacking son and daughter. After police had failed to make contact with him, he opened fire on the police who then shot him dead. The man fired "100s of rounds at the officers".

The commissioner says police returned fire.
"He was opening fire at our police officers and put people nearby in danger," said Paré. Officials say the suspect fired hundreds of rounds at officers. “It’s a minor miracle that no one on our police side or fire side were hit today,” said Mayor Jorge Elorza. “There were a lot of rounds exchanged.”"

Derek Sheppard, 35, is wanted for the murder of Bernadette Ortiz, 50, according to police. Investigators believe Sheppard shot Ortiz following an argument inside their Harold Street apartment. Police said Sheppard should be considered armed and dangerous. He may be driving a gray 2019 Nissan Sentra with Rhode Island registration LD-715. Providence police investigate early morning stabbing
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Providence police are investigating a stabbing that happened early Saturday morning.
According to Commander Thomas Verdi, the victim, a 45-year-old woman was stabbed inside her apartment on Salmon Street.
The victim suffered lacerations to her forehead and face.
She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital and at last check was in stable condition.
