There are some houses we are looking at in the Elmhurst area close to PC. Looking to know if anyone knows whether or not the area is safe and would be accepting? We really like the idea of living in area, but just want a better understanding of the area. The house is near River Ave and Admiral (near La Salle Bakery).

Which side of Admiral? The side with LaSalle bakery is Wanskuck; the other side is Elmhurst (closer to PC). Avoid the Wanskuck side. If it's the Elmhurst side of Admiral, the farther from Admiral the better (closer to Eaton/PC)
Elmhurst is nice but the edges of it that border Wanskuck, Smith Hill, and Valley aren't great.
Being gay really makes no difference. But, again, those edges aren't great...and it sounds like you're looking at the Wanskuck edge. How close you are to Wanskuck really matters. It goes from nice to rough very quickly.

Elmhurst is one of the most gay friendly neighborhoods of a gay friendly city. Gays are very integrated into the fabric of the neighborhood. Mostly couples, they sit on working community committees & occupy powerful ward positions. The gay community there is heavily involved with community fundraising.
Some parts do suffer a bit from petty thefts and if you like peace & quiet, it's wise to avoid areas rented by PC students. All in all a fine middle income neighborhood where gays & straights get along well.

I would avoid Elmhurst if possible; that whole area has been in a slow decline for many decades. What is your budget?
I'm not sure what this comment is based on? Many feel much of the neighborhood has changed for the better. It certainly has become more diverse. Including, probably one of the city's highest concentration of gay households - per the poster's interest.

And I'm not sure why you're attempting to portray Elmhurst as some sort of gay mecca. It's not.
