The pluses -

Costco in Rhode Island
Access to 295/95 via hwy 37 and Rt 2 and Rt 5
Center of the State

Negatives - Traffic effecting Oaklawn Neighborhood (Garden Hills?) - Rt 2 is a state highway not an neighborhood street. If they are worried about traffic, I recommend blocking access to Rt 2 from Oaklawn and making them use Rt 5 to Rt 2.

Flooding - Spoke with people from Hilltop Drive area and they are just south and downhill from Mulligan's. They said that flooding from Mulligan's supposedly had been addressed before, but they still get flooding.

Personally, if that is the only place in Cranston to put it then I'm for it, but I think the area just east of Chapel Hill and west of the old Citizen's Bank Hqtrs with access via Hwy 37 at Post Road is best.

My understanding is it's not a done deal yet. The same organization that is trying to block this has been successful in the past. But my guess is, in this economy, they're going to have an uphill battle this time.

I wouldnt worry about it. The whole buying in bulk warehouse thing isnt really part of Rhode Island's culture. Its not like BJ's or Sam's are huge in RI.

I thought it was just a proposal at this point.

It is. And Mattiello and Fenton-Fung are both against it.

I think I'll have to see what else is going in there before I decide. If it's all about the CostCo, I think I'm against it too. Rhode Island is a small business-heavy state, and they really need our support right now.

Costco was rumored to be coming to that site a year ago.

But would they really compete with small businesses? There is already BJ's, Walmart, Target...most likely that's who they would steal business from.

Hey man, in normal times I'm right there with ya. I just think in 2020 we have to be esp. sensitive to small businesses.

Amazon grabs business from Big Box & Small Business/Retail, alike. Big Box Retail also takes business away from Small Businesses. It's a chain of events. At the bottom of the chain, Small Business/Retail just struggles to survive - and often doesn't.
