Many people from the East Side shop at the Branch Ave. Stop and Shop (closer than both Pawtucket and North Providence), as well as Whole Foods (2 locations there) and the East Side Marketplace.
Depends on where on the East Side. There's a Stop & Shop as well as a Shaw's on Taunton Ave in East Providence. Relatively easy from Wayland and Fox Point.
And do folks on the expensive East Side just defer to Stop & Shop in North Providence or even nearby Pawtucket? Maybe Big Y in Attleboro? Go to Warwick in a car?
I guess some or most of us in and near Boston simply take all of our options for granted.
If you live in Boston proper, I imagine your options are quite limited without a car. Do you schlep groceries on the T or fight Boston traffic in a car?
I live on the "expensive east side" and we shop at 6 different groceries for price and variety- all within 10-15 min- including the ones in nearby Seekonk. The ugly Rte 6 strip in MA has everything one needs.
Of course, over the last year, I see many having groceries delivered. We prefer to be hands on and select our own. And, as someone else pointed out, a big farmers' market comes to us every weekend.

You moving to RI? I do agree that grocery options in the majority of areas are pretty lackluster (although getting a little better with two new Market Baskets and Dave's slowly expanding). Not a fan of S&S at all.
Ooops....my mistake. Of course, no Big Y in Attleboro. I confused it with the Market Basket in Attleboro.

Was thinking of moving to the Providence area when I started this thread last month, but probably staying put in the Boston area awhile longer, if not much longer.
Ooops....just noticed my title says ON Rhode Island. Ha! Obviously, should be IN Rhode Island.
Vicente's on Pawtucket Ave in Pawtucket opened today December 1st. It is in the former Ocean State Job Lot location. I stopped in as I happened to be driving by there today. It is a nice clean market. Smaller than a Dave's. Had pretty much all the staples - produce/meats/prepared foods/dairy/etc... with an emphasis on ethnic foods catering to the neighborhood. Should be a convenient option for those living in that area.
Kroger sells 2 rotisserie chicken for $10,you must buy 2 and chop them into 16 pieces yourself
