Hi, my friends and I are looking to rent a 5 bedroom single family home in providence. it's not huge but it's a decent size. we were wondering on average per month how much the utilities would cost including: heat & hot water, electric, cable and internet. If you have any idea please let me know. thank you!

Barbie: I am assuming you have a particular home in mind? What you need to do is ask the current owners, or current tenant if you can, for the yearly totals of each of these bills. Cable and internet are a personal thing and together may run you about $90 per month. With the other utilities, the former tenant/owner can give you an idea depending on what they keep their temps at. If you cannot get them from the tenant/or owner, you can get them from the utility companies if you have the full name of the last residents.

Without knowing the square footage of heated living area, it's difficult to guess. I will say, however, that all utilities are high in Providence, so be prepared. One of my sisters is paying $2.49 per gallon for oil -- for a 2100 sf home at an average of 67 to 68 degrees. Last week her total for the year was over $2500 for heat alone; and it's a well insulated well built newer home.

To really give you a good answer we kinda need to know more about the place. New house, old house? Square footage? What kind of heat does it have? Electric? Oil? Gas? I would follow Annie's advice and get those utility bills or former tenant names.
