Hey everyone,

I apologize in advance for my question sounding a bit repetitive. I looked at the earlier posts and just like everyone else I don't know what neighborhood to live in!!!

I currently live in a month to month rental in the west end, and I've been here for 3 months. I'm finding it a little isolated and really difficult to meet people, so I think its time to move.

I'm a 34 year old single female, professional, and I have a dog. I'd like to live somewhere where I can walk my dog, and there is lots of stuff to do and people around. I don't mind the college students, but I'd prefer to be around people my own age. Of course most of those people live in the 'burbs with their kids now!

I've been thinking about the Fan (too many college students?), Carytown, Shockoe Slip (do the apartment buildings really provide the opportunity to meet people?), Oregon Hill (heard its got a good music scene?) or Church Hill (more people my age?). I work in the West End, but I'm not worried about traffic/commute because I'm from D.C.!

Any help would be great, all I know for sure after doing research is NOT to rent from River City Real Estate! Thanks in advance!!!

I think the Fan or Carytown would be a good bet to be in walking distance of a lot of options. Since you have a dog you'd be pretty close to James River Park, Byrd Park, and the dog park at Dogwood Dell. The Slip would be nice but perhaps not as dog friendly even though they do allow pets on the Canal Walk now. I don't know enough about the demographics of Church Hill to recommend that. I get the impression the gentrified area is empty-nesters, boomers, and young families. Further East are the younger, artsy crowd but also a higher risk of crime. Just mt two cents.

thank you so much! i did look at a couple places downtown, and while the inside of the lofts is nice, most of the ones that allow dogs seem pretty isolated. i'm gonna check out a few open houses in the fan on monday!
