I just got a job in Richmond and need to relocate this weekend. I'm interested in the Museum District (or maybe Manchester, West End). Does anyone know of any places for rent? I saw a bunch of possibilities that looked good, but they all seem to be River City Real Estate properties. Is it really that bad?! The Parachute and Tobacco Factories look pretty cool and some of their other houses seem to be in really desirable areas. Any help is greatly appreciated since I live in NC and have to be in Richmond on Monday.

What are you looking for in the place you want to live?

Primary concerns are safety and price ($850 or less).

Ideally, I would like to be in an area where there are single people my age (34). I run, so a place convenient for that would be great. I'd like to feel close to things to do (places to eat, shop, walk around) but not surrounded by only college kids. I don't want to feel like I'm out in the middle of nowhere or surrounded only by people with families. I also have a dog, so I'll have to be walking him (thus the safety concerns). Thanks for any suggestions!

I'd lean towards the Museum District / Fan area...

Thanks! I think the Museum District sounds great! Only problem is, the only places I've been able to find so far are ones managed by River City Real Estate. I've seen some pretty bad reviews of them, but I don't know whether or not they really are that bad to stay away from at all costs??

I have, but haven't had luck yet. The places that sounded promising ended up being listed by people who were supposedly ministers in Africa who really wanted me to take good care of their places but, sadly, couldn't get back to give me the keys. If only I'd send them the security deposit, they'd send everything to me and allow me to use the computer, etc they had left behind in the house.

You could try something like Kensington Court or Malvern Manor?

Unfortunately, both of those do not allow 3 pets. I'm starting to get the feeling I won't be able to find anything in the Museum District.

Keep checking craigslist. That's how I found my place in the MD.

I was on there the other day and saw a few renovated condos on Stuart for like 800-900, wood floors, SS applicances etc..
