You won't be walking anywhere nice from there, I will say that. You'll have to drive into town if you want to visit restaurants and take in the things Richmond has to offer. You working for PM or DuPont?

Funny story - so my partner just relocated ahead of me to Richmond. The night before getting the keys to our townhouse, we had a room booked in this area at the Red Roof, which appeared to be brand new - at 4350 Commerce Rd - mostly because he was traveling with our dog and that chain takes pets.

He called me frantic as he pulled in here saying there was no way in hell that he was leaving the SUV and hitched up trailer unattended for the night. He said there were people just sort of milling around, going to and from the gas station next to the hotel between a hole in the fence. He said it looked fairly sketchy like there were drug deals and all sorts of just strange behavior going on. We ended up booking him at a place in Innsbrook instead that night.

We should have asked our friends in Richmond about the area BEFORE booking, because when we told them the story afterwards, they were like "what in the heck were you thinking?" The hotel itself looked great (brand new, completely remodeled), but obviously photos on a website don't tell you the whole story.

Now before someone pulls out the whole "oh you're just sheltered" card - we currently live in the city of St. Louis and have pretty much seen it all in the 13 years we have been here. Prostitutes, shootings (including 2 murders), drug deals all within blocks of us, and we have never really felt odd or uncomfortable. For him to say that he was sketched out and leery of leaving the car unattended speaks volumes to me.

I'd say keep looking for another place, especially if you have to put up with it long-term.

Well, there are worse neighborhoods. But I'd be disinclined to stay there myself. I've got no problems with ckiggins description... Industrial to hood...
