Per BizSense, a new 21-story tower is to rise at 10th and E. Byrd. This would be across 10th from Riverfront Plaza and diagonal to WilliamsMullen. SunTrust announced to be major tenant with name to fly on the building.

What a prime location! I wish it were at least a few stories taller, though.

I agree that Richmond needs its "signature" 35+ story building, but not sure this site would be the best. As the skyline is often viewed from south of the river, or crossing it on 95, a bigger building here would risk blocking much of the rest of the skyline behind it. I'm very hopeful that the new Dominion tower will be Richmond's tallest, and I think a taller building would fit better in the skyline there.

Nice infill! Here's the rendering. The building's on a pretty brisk schedule and it's classy, but between now and its completion at the end of next year, I'm hoping the design gets a bit more daring - it looks a lot like a Gateway Plaza II. It's also going to have 187 luxury apt. The location means it's going to look really nice, right up along the riverfront. I'd like to see this officey-area transition to a better balance of mixed/use with residential, which this building can help do connecting the Locks development to the financial district.

Gateway Plaza is a bit of an eyesore from Cary St. The parking garage is cheap looking IMO and the public parking spots on Cary St. leave a lot to be desired. But I agree, I see a lot of similarities.

I like the concept of apartments in Shockoe Slip. It's depressing how dead it is on nights and weekends. Hopefully with time that will change.

The surface parking lot fronting Cary isn't oart of te project. Different owner, so something better could go there at some point. Excited to see this new project rise.

Different strokes I guess... The Gateway parking deck is my favorite addition to the city in years. I love the look of it.

Has anyone heard any updates/news on the new Dominion building since the announcement last year?

December 2017? Is this possible? The way things move in this town, that's a bit surprising, but very welcoming.

You mean like 20 or 30 more so It could ACTUALLY be called a tower? Next they'll call it a skyscraper LOL!
