I am considering a move to Richmond. What would you say are the top 3 reasons to move there? What would you say are the top 3 reasons to NOT move there?

Good

1. Great Location on East coast (I would fair to say about the best) - right in center of mid-altantic and just below DC traffic. But easy trip into the Northeast. Quick few hours to mountains or beach.

2. Not to big - not to small. About everything you could possibly need without feeling like a metropolitan where your right on top of everyone and can't find a space to yourself / and traffic is pretty good (easy to get around)

3. Cost of Living / Quality of Life - compared to many areas about the perfect balance.

Bad

1. City of Richmond Anemic local government and counties that look out for themselves.

2. Some areas of city are still a "work in process". Although a lot of safe areas you need to know where not to wander off to.

3. No as many high paying jobs as say Northern Virginia (but of course you don't need as much in Richmond to do well).

Thank you for your items of consideration.

Reasons to move there:

1 - Agree with cb, good mix of big and small town stuff.....enough going on in or near the area for those into various activities, but traffic generally not too bad
2 - Weather pretty moderate, most winters usually not bad
3 - Cost of living houses etc reasonable

Reasons not to:

1 - Crime and the ghetto element/attitude is bad
2 - Many areas generally run down/nasty (see #1)
3 - Depending on your field, jobs may not be so great

Frankly I'd look elsewhere

1- people suck
2-drivers are horrible
3-everything is horribly behind the times ie.. medical care, infrastructure etc.

I’ve lived ALL over the country, until I moved to Richmond, El Paso Texas was on the bottom of my list. But not
anymore.

No reasons to live here
