Chesterfield has never been a crime hot spot but no area, no matter how nice or even gated, is crime free. I tell people to look at property crime stats as this is what you are most likely to be a victim of. Violent crime happens in higher crime neighborhoods where drug sales are prevalent or things such as prostitution. Chesterfield: Nothing horrible, but if you are really concerned you'd want to avoid the areas up near Richmond Highway, and Down adjacent to Petersburg. That's it. And I'd have no hesitation living in either myself, aside from the fact that living anywhere in Chesterfield outside of say Bon Air would have me dying of boredom. I'll take the city every day

While i'll agree not moving by Petersburg I'll say that not everyone need a city and the stressful hustle and bustle of the place.

Do you live in Richmond? Do you mean you like Richmond the city?
How are the areas around the hospital VCU? I may need to go back to that hospital often for medical treatments.
