We have narrowed down to two areas with good school districts where we can buy a newly built home. We are an Asian Pakistani family of 5 and both have MBA degrees from top schools. You are probably wondering why move here? Because we want to buy a house cash and have no loans on us at the same time enjoy the weekend getaways Richmond has to offer with our kids attending best schools.

I am honestly not too sure about Mechanicsville due to reading some comments on other posts. We are moving from top school districts in Dallas Texas and want to get the same here within affordable housing area 700-750k. My wife wears head scarf and dont want her to be stared down every where we go.

I want great school district with diversity. Thanks in advance!

Not sure how many times you can ask on this. My answer hasn't changed. Midlothian. And your comment on MBA's and top schools was kind of self-serving.

Thanks. Just that many others also recommended Mechanicsville which seems to be close to everything while Midlothian seems far away but a nicer town to live in.

You need to put both in Googlemaps and see how close they both are to Richmond. I'd much prefer to be on the side that Midlothian is on. Very close to a Wegmans and close to a Trader Joe's. Close to Maymont which is a great place to visit. Both are close into Richmond so take your pick.

I would check out Giles Farm. I have noticed a lot of diverse families there. This is located in Atlee area. Can’t speak for the area overall, tho.

Midlothian is where you'd want to be. As an Asian American who grew up in Chesterfield County but attended high school in Hanover County; Midlothian is far more diverse than Mechanicsville will ever be.

I would also check out areas that are zoned for Deep Run High School. It seems to be pretty diverse, particularly the Twin Hickory neighborhood.

@keo91: I totally hear what you are saying, but you’d be shocked. Where they are building those neighborhoods along Atlee Station Rd., it has become much more diverse. My theory is the northern Va money exodus.

Thank you! I checked out that West End Glen Allen area. Twin Hickory and Wyndham to be specific is all great schools, even south of Short Pump mall in Henrico area near Short Pump. That is our primary option but there are no houses available for sale for our liking.

Now I'm thinking Midlothian but the areas with good schools are so far back that we would have to drive out of the woods to get to places.
