Hi-

I am moving to the Richmond area (looking at Chesterfield County, Hanover County, Henrico County).

What areas have the most New York/ New Jersey transplants?

What areas have the least most New York/ New Jersey transplants?

Thanks!

There are definitely lots of transplants in Short Pump (23233 and 23059) in Western Henrico County. Lots of good schools and good shopping make it a very attractive area to transplants. I imagine the same is true of Midlothian in Chesterfield County.

My neighborhood in Midlothian is full of transplants, not necessarily NY/NJ. I would venture a semi educated guess that most of your transplants are going to be found in the newer subdivisions in Western Henrico and Chesterfield.

Well were not all corraled in one area. I think what you'll find is transplants from out of states tend to lean towards newer subdivisions. This is not absolute just prevalient. Beside if you have your shots you can live anywhere .......Just kidding

Then there are those of us you travelled down south and bought a home that has one thing rarely found in NY: A home where you can't see your neighbors and they can't see you. A home with acereage ( More than 2). Don't think that this the sticks. I can be at the large shopping areas of either Midlothian or West Broad within 15-25 minutes at any part of the day. I can count on one hand the amount of New Yorkers I've met in my town.

I have friends who moved to Chesterfield county about 5 years ago, and one neighborhood of new houses they lived in was almost entirely New Yorkers. Now they are in another, and at least half the people there are not native Virginians, but not all NY'ers. It's a very attractive place if you can get a decent paying job.

If you want the city life, move to the Fans district or Bottoms Up (lots of historical buildings that have been converted to apts and condos) and very nice. There are more NY ammenitie-like shops in the west-end near short pump area and not too far from the Fans or Byrd Park.

I have lived in Short Pump and now in Chesterfield county. I think that there are more New Yorkers in Chesterfield. It is sometimes hard to find a native Richmonder.
