I have a very bright 10 year old daughter who loves to learn. I have been unhappy with her education; SOLs, read and regurgitate style of teaching. I am wondering if anyone knows of a teacher who teaches (rather homeschools) a few children for tuition. Or one who would be interested. There used to be a one room school house type of situation in Roanoke years ago, where hands on teaching/learning was embraced and utilized. Is that still around? I see the value of test taking and reinforcement of skills learned, but my daughter is the type who is creative and I want to foster that in her. I would rather pay a homeschool mom or a teacher who is not in the field right now to provide a great education for her...Community School is an option, but they only teach evolution and we are creationism kind of people. So that scares me for her sciences...I am not against exposure, but not for teaching that in isolation. Any ideas or suggestions?

Um, I'm not sure what you want. Do you want a Christian teacher? You're not going to be able to fulfill her creative soul at Faith Christian. They are all about "the rules" there.

If you have a creative child, the best place in all of Roanoke is Community School. Community is the most open-minded school (and really teaches with a creative soul). They want children to love to learn, and expect children to contribute their ideas. How is that scary?

I think you need to go and check out Community School and make sure she learns creationism at home.

You can also check out the Montessori Schools. I haven't been to them in a few years, but they do offer a more creative approach to teaching.
