Hi there!

I'm wondering if you could help me find which way is the cheapest to go from NYC to Lynchburg. I've searched a lot on this on my own and found Greyhound being the cheapest but AMTRAK isn't much more expensive and it's a 3 hours faster drive so right now I think train is on the top of my list. Do you have any recommendations, suggestions and advice for the how I can get there in the cheapest possible way?

Thanks a lot!

Another vote for Amtrak. The train is worth the extra time over the drive any time: If you have a laptop you can plug in and work, surf the net, watch movies or read and you don't have to pull over to eat or use facilities. And you can walk around more on the train than on a bus.

If it works with your schedule, take the Regional #171 (as opposed to the Crescent). After DC it is less crowded and gets in at a better time. Part of its time difference is a delay in DC while they change engines, but you can disembark and wait in the mall at Washington Union Station. And, although my experience is only from NoVA to Lynchburg, with the DC area traffic I've found taking the train at that time of day is actually faster.
