I'll be at SML this weekend for the first time, and I am hoping to do some hiking. I live in Florida now so it's pretty rare for me to get a chance!!

Is there a Smith Mountain that has any good hiking trails? I am unable to really get any info through the usual channels (Google and whatnot). I understand that the Lake is obviously more of a water destination (I mean, it's a lake) and people go for boating/fishing/tubing/etc. But I got outvoted by my friends on the weekend destination and am trying to see if I can still get a little climb in

Any other tips for my Smith Mountain Lake trip will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You might look up Explore Park in Roanoke. It's physical address is in Roanoke so it might be a good distance from where you are staying. It is at: 56 Roanoke River Pkwy, Roanoke, VA 24014

There is also Smith Mountain State Park which has hiking trails. The address is in Huddleton on the north shore of the lake. It is immediate area is not really mountainous, but more rollings hills. Look up the PDF Trail Guide at this site: http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-pa...rk_trail_guide

I think that says it all about SML. Definately that area is a water destination.
