So my cable bill has gone up again, another $10/month for internet access and the most basic of basic cable (essentially the local broadcast stations). No house phone.

Cox's "loyalty" dept. has given me a 6-month reprieve but what other options are there for internet access? (I will spend the "cable" part of it on hulu-plus or equivalent.)

If anyone knows of an alternative in Roanoke City I would love to know. I am not happy with their service and high prices.

For TV there is the satellite providers, DirecTV and Dish.

For high speed internet access: DSL service from Verizon, satellite service from the likes of HughesNet or WildBlue or wireless connectivity via Verizon, Sprint, etc.

Digging a bit and I found this recent RT article: a Verizon 4G antenna service they call "HomeFusion Broadband." Supports up to 4 wired & 20 unwired devices. Minimum price is $59.99/mo. though. I'd really like to be able to pay for what I actually need instead of paying for a college-dorm's-worth of Internet.
