I thought I ask because heard so many different answers. Some say the city folks are nice and will greet you, others say they will stare at you and give you dirty looks especially if you staring back. To me they are ok not most southern welcome but better than memphis lol. Do you feel roanoke city people are friendly or can be crabby?

I don't understand the purpose of your question.

Being from extreme southwest VA, and with limited interaction in Roanoke, I didn't find customer service and things like that to be very pleasant. No one seems happy to be there and doing their jobs. To me, Roanoke seems like a city on the decline, more in common with coal country Grundy than somewhere (slightly) growing like Christiansburg or Abingdon.

Roanoke is not "on the decline". House values increasing, excellent medical infrastructure, stable tax base, increasing tourism until the pandemic.

Covid sucks, but c'mon man... the whole world is dealing with this right now. It's not gonna take Roanoke down. Still a great part of the country.

in the county its up but last report i seen markets down in the city and they have had a poverty problem in the city even pre covid. Now I love roanoke and it is gonna rise but we do need more employment in the city and get people at least to middle class.

From my viewpoint since I’ve come from another state about 4 years ago, I’d say definitely friendly but you cannot judge lately due to the Covid! People are stressed and concerned and I totally agree with ExAustin’s comments

that's one thing that made me fall in love with Roanoke, was the friendly people I encountered. Store clerks with great attitudes, 2 different times I got clear concise directions when I was lost, wait staff friendly and go out of their way to suggest things to do. I feel Roanoke is a very friendly place. Of course, I am a friendly person too so that may bring it out in the people I meet.
