They could tell I wasnt from here. I transferred with my company when they opened a new store here. The company is from Richmond and all of my co-workers knew I had moved from Richmond they claimed I had a Richmond accent.. hehe

I have to respond to this thread with laughter! I grew up in Lynchburg but moved to Cajun Country in my early 20's. My job takes me places and I meet a lot of people who are confused by my combo Virginia/Cajun accent. People are always asking me where I live and I tell them and they tell me they picked up on that accent but there is something else there.......

There are so many people here from other places. Even the folks on the local access channels, and local newscasters, are a mixed bag. Maybe I've just been here long enough now to not notice it as much.

I have found that if you speak clear virginia english...no slang...you do not have an accent in roanoke
