I live close to Tanglewood mall. There are bus service available for those who need a ride. However, it appears unsafe to access bus stops due to lack of sidewalk. In addition, I don't see crosswalks at majority of intersections, let alone pedestrian signals and push buttons. I am new to this place but I have not seen many roadways with nice sidewalks and bicycle lanes in this city. As a resident of this city, cannot we request city or state government for safe roadway all road users (pedestrians/bicyclists/motorists)?

I just posted about it in a recent thread:
//www.city-data.com/forum/roano...oke-salem.html

Dont know whats the exact procedure to request it though. There is no city website that has a wishlist for the city. Seems like a long process of filing a petition, attend meetings, etc.

If you're close to Tanglewood you may not even be in the city. Personally I think there ought to be a law against building a house without also building a sidewalk. Suburbs are the absolute worst offenders. Suburbs=hardcore car culture.

Roanoke (city, not county) does a pretty good job with sidewalks and bike lanes, but no place is perfect.

Default You can request sidewalks

the City of Roanoke's website has a request service page that can be found at Home Page. Tanglewood is located in the county so you would have to request that through Roanoke County. Many city neighborhoods have extensive network of sidewalks (Roanoke County neighborhoods not so much).
