Hi I live in Norwalk CT with my husband and two daughters ages 14 and 12 and we are looking to move to Roanoke VA? This is CT are so darn expensive you can never get ahead. I know that the weather is nicer in VA then in CT I also hear that the people are friendlier, that is one of the reasons for wanting to move. but we are just tired of the same old things here.

I don't know if anyone has gone through the same feeling of just needing a change?

I would love to know where you moved to, and how the move went and if you were happy with your decision.

Thanks for reading

yup, that's our story, basically, too!
The northeast has gotten too expensive. We're glad we made the move. Most of my life was spent in the tristate area and there's a lot I love about it...lots of fond memories, friends, etc. But now that we're here, I don't even want to take the drive to visit.

I did that just over 5 years ago. After being in FL 15 years, it was time for a change. What I found in this part of VA was less expensive than things where we were in FL. Plus with relatives closer now, it was hard to resist. I'm still okay with being here, but another area of VA would be nice.

I moved from Fl to NC in 98/99 then to TN in 06/07 and am getting ready to move to VA, I think. My luck I will end up moving at the end of December again which seems to be what happens.

It has been a mixed bag for me.

Being single, decidedly middle aged, somewhat reclusive and having furry children that need a great deal of commitment I have found that it is difficult to cultivate a social network.

Being married with children it should be easier.

I have found that is is very expensive to move and takes several years to recover financially. And it is always WAY more labor intensive than what I anticipate it will be.

I like new places and I like finding new nifty places to eat, and meeting people from different places.

If I lived in CT I would want to move to VA (way more than I already want to move from NE TN to SW VA) and it would be worth it to me to deal with all the hard work, expense and the making of new friends and acquaintances.

At the very top of the Retirement forum you'll find a sticky with posts about women retiring alone to new city/state. Lots of experiences there.
