Hey guys in a couple of weeks my family and i are moving to Lynchburg. We are meeting with a real estate agent in december and i found some homes in Bedfornd County. Is that a pretty good town? What about schools? Any good schools in the area. I have a 6 year old girl and she currently attends a private school. I am also open for some info on a good public schools around the area. Also, I am filipino and my husband is italian...are people pretty receptive to biracial couples? I have been reading and listening to friends and post on this webpage and im getting mixed messages. And one more thing...Is there any schools in the area for Physical Therapy Assistants? Thx...

From what you wrote and what you are looking for, I think Roanoke might be a better "match" for your family.

I live in Staunton and am of Italian descent. My dad came here from Sicily. Everybody up here gets a kick out of trying to say my name. It's been butchered every way imaginable. But I have never encountered any negative connotations from it. I would assume Bedford would be no different. On you being a Filipino, I certainly hope no one would judge you on that either. Again I don't think anyone should have a problem with that. Interesting side point, Va Beach is suppose to have a large Filipino population, so maybe that area might appeal to you. BTW, Bedford is a small town. The only thing going for it is that it's 20 mins to Roanoke or Lynchburg. Don't know where you're coming from, but in this part of the state, Roanoke is the only "big city". Good luck and welcome to Virginia!

I agree you won't have any problems. Can't give any information about the Bedford public schools but there are a couple of good private schools -- James River Day and Holy Cross -- in Lynchburg.

Good luck!

I think Jefferson School of health Sciences in Roanoke has a PT program. Living in Bedford is fine for Either Roanoke or Lynchburg access. Lynchburg also has some programs. Don't worry about the mixed race thing. We have enough filipinos in the area that we have had a filipino Mass at our parish. Several Filipino priests in the area.
