Does anyone out there know where I can find a reasonably priced, trustworthy mechanic in Roanoke? I am a single mother of 3 and need some work done on my car (Hundai Elantra) and I don't have money to be throwing at these mechanics that like to take advantage of women. Could anyone help?

Henry Williams on Plantation Rd in NE is really good. I moved to Roanoke in August and they were recommended to me. Since then, I have had to take my car there as well as my parents' car. They're very friendly and honest.

Default Honest Mechanics....

I don't know what you need as far as work goes, but if you need transmission work done. I know that Salem Automatic on the truck rt. is great, they have reasonable prices and they are honest! Their whole family have been mechanics from way back. Not only can they tell you about your transmissions, but they may be able to tell you what else is wrong with your car and advise you where to take it to have it fixed.
One good mechanic knows another!

We used to go to a place called Bill's Body Shop (I think?). I don't even know of it's still there. Bill was a mechanic/junk car collector. He was a friend of one of my wife's cousins and was a great guy. My wife kept having trouble with the infamous "check engine" light on her Ford Explorer and there were a couple of times that she brought it in that he didn't even charge us because he said there was nothing wrong.

This guy had the oldest dog I have ever seen - a 21-year-old pit bull. She generally couldn't do anything but sit on her dog bed behind his desk and watch everyone, but she would usually get up and sniff everyone who came in, wag her tail, and then go back to bed.

I disagree about Henry Williams on Plantation Road. After much research in
finding an honest mechanic I have discovered the Firestone store at Tanglewood Mall. I have never been ripped off and I don't think it is their policy to rip off women like many mechanics do.
