I have a Hyundai Sonata which keeps going back garage. Being new to Rochester and the US, I wanted to know which car repairers charge reasonable rates. I have been going to QGS at Brighton Townline road. In my last visit, they asked me to replace Cam shaft sensor and told me it would cost $140, when I checked the price on Autopart store it was selling for less than $100.
Can anyone suggest a trustworthy repairer? Thanks

East Ave Auto. I have used these guys a ton and my entire family has for over 30 years. They have never steered us wrong or over-charged...

140 to replace a cam sensor? Sounds reasonable to me. Do you expect them to provide the part or labor for free? Typical labor rates in shops these days is $70+, and that's about a half hour to hour job per the book. Good luck finding a *good* shop to do that job for much cheaper than 140.

$140 just for the Cam Sensor. They charged me half an hour for labor. Although I know that it didn't took more than 5 mins for them to diagnose where the problem was. I am still ok with the labor charge. What annoys me is the part cost. Looks like there are not many honest people in this profession. Wonder if there are any groups in Rochester where one can learn the basic stuff and DIY.

Business is business, people gotta get paid to feed their families too. There are tons of resources online for DIY auto repair, you just gotta learn what to search for and then know what you're looking at.

I don't know what year your car is, but a quick google search for "Hyundai Sonata cam sensor" instantly brought up a few results for cam sensors for later model cars that were around $50. Remember, that's from a website that has less overheard than an auto repair shop does. The shop probably bought the sensor for $50 and then has to make a profit on it, so they can further stay in business to serve people just like you. Again, business is business
