This is the middle of spring! Minneapolis is warm right now, because it's spring! If your going to post about the winter, but then prove it with todays temperature in May, then something is wrong. Minneapolis' climate varies a lot from summer to winter. In the winter we get wind chills down to the -60s, and in the summer we get heat indexs of up to 120s.

Rochester record low: -24

Minneapolis record low: -34

New York State record low: -52

Minnesota record low: -60
Minus 60 degrees? As in negative 60 degrees? That's beyond cold! Holy freaking cow......and here people are arguing over 1 or 2 degrees. Forget those 1 or 2 degrees and grab a parka and sit on a fire......damn that is COLD!

Do you study weather stats? Work for the NWS? Bff's with Jim Cantore? No? Then how do you know it's NEVER been negative 60 in Minnesota? It has in fact been 60 below in Minnesota. And it was fairly recent. Unless 1996 is so last millenium to you.

A record doesn't mean it's something that is a daily occurrence. It's something that happened once. Thus it's a record. Much like that little company known as Guinness. You may have heard of them and their books and museums. THey keep track of all sorts of interesting things. Not the beer company!

USATODAY.com

"The coldest temperature ever recorded east of the Mississippi River was -60°F in Tower, Minn., on Feb. 2, 1996."

The lowest NYS temp was in Old Forge in 1979 when it was a lovely 52 below. Interestingly, Colorado, Montana, Minnesota, Alaska (not surprising), Idaho, North Dakota, Oregon (that one surprised me), South Dakota, Utah, Wisconsin, and Wyoming all have lower record cold than New York. Vermont is close at negative 50, but Vermont is a very small state compared to New York so maybe that's where the difference lies. Hawaii is the only state not to have a record low below zero. Aren't they lucky? So when will people starting flooding their gates?

And if you really want some chilly thoughts, read this. You might want a mug of hot chocolate to warm up your fingers while browsing.
