Hello all,

We are considering moving to Rochester from Northern Kentucky (across the Ohio from Cincinnati). We miss snow. The winter's here are overcast and gloomy (we only get 12 more days of sun a year than Rochester), but there is no snow!

We would love to buy a home that is within 30-40 min. drive of the Children's hospital (my husband is a pediatric nurse and is coming from one of the top three children's hospitals in the country). We would prefer to be in a suburban or even more rural area and would love a home with ,at least, an acre of land. We have two children both in elementary school but the oldest will be going into middle school soon, so good schools are important.

Also, what type of family activities are there in the area? There are always festivals, parades, free symphony concerts ect.....here in Cincinnati. Do similar events occur in or around Rochester?

What areas around Rochester would be a good fit for us?

Thanks for your help,
Hammersmithcm

Perhaps Victor or the Honeoye Falls-Lima area. Maybe the Brockport or Caledonia-Mumford areas too. There are others that may work as well. This website could help: RealtyUSA - Property - Property-List

Default West side of Rochester...

Hi-
Very new here but wanted to add my .02. We live in Hamlin, a rural suburb that is a 25-30 minute drive from the University of Rochester/Strong Memorial Hospital. My husband works there & also belongs to a great car pool that meets in North Greece, keeps parking costs low and less $$ with fuel cost savings.

Our house sits on 1.4 acres of land, is about 2900 square feet, beautiful landscaping, updated kitchens/baths/ huge pool and we paid about $135K 5 years ago...home prices are lower on the west side of town and taxes rates are much lower than something similar on the east side of town.

Check out the western suburbs of Hilton, Greece, Spencerport, Brockport, Parma, Clarkson and Hamlin.

Another good resource for all things kid related is: Kids Events and Resources | Kids Out and About.com (Rochester) They list tons of free events, concerts, festivals, etc...

if you like biking, we have terrific paths everywhere. And the Erie Canal is easily accessed with its trails that go on and on.

Lots of festivals, free concerts by the Lake and kid-friendly camps, activities and events.
Good luck!
Karen

For school, Pittsford has one of the best school district but it also reflect on the tax. What is your budget?

Thanks Aurora nurse for the reply!!

@ CityLight, We really don't want to be paying more than 1500/month (mortgage plus taxes, we are paying down 20% so we don't have to worry about a pmi) We have a substantial amount for a down payment and moving expenses already saved but the longer we save the more home we will be able to afford....so by the time we are ready to move, I would say we could afford a home in the 209000-235000 price range.
