Hello, we are moving to Rochester and we are looking for a new home.
We founds some really nice ones in the Gates area. I was curious what its like in Gates?
I always here its better to look in East Rochester for a home. This is the first town on the west side we have looked at.
What is the Gates Chili school district like?
Thanks!

I think Gates-Chili would be fine. I'm wondering if you mean that it is better to look in the Eastern suburbs of Rochester.

Everyone tells me that the some parts of the west side of Rochester are not that great.

You should be fine. I think the Eastern suburbs have a better rep due to being more affluent than the Western suburbs, which tend to be more diverse too. You may have some areas of the Western suburbs closer to Rochester that may be more working class than other parts of the suburbs on that side of town, but for the most part, things are still fine.

I guess it depends on your goals. Personally, I would not buy in Gates or East Rochester because the school districts are not great... and whether or not you have kids, school district impacts property value here. There are many better areas here, both west and east side.

Keep in mind that parts of western Gates are in the Spencerport SD. So, it depends on where in Gates too. I wouldn't say that Gates-Chili is bad, but there are better districts in terms of things like test scores, etc that are on the same level in terms of home prices.

True! I just wanted to be sure the OP knows that around here, parts of Gates and East Rochester - while certainly not BAD - might not be the top choice (at least for me). Gates within Spencerport SD would be nice.
