We recently moved to Raleigh, NC from Canandaigua......we love it here but we sure do miss Wegmans! The grocery stores here pale in comparison. Everyone says that Harris Teeter is good but let me tell you it is nothing compared to Wegmans! Anyways on the Raleigh, NC forum there is a thread where someone supposedly heard from a district manager at Wegmans that they had bought land in NE North Carolina with the plans to build a Wegmans there in the future -

Anyone with any knowledge of this? Could it be my dream come true that Wegmans will eventually make it to NC???

I am positive if they ever opened here they would be wildly successful - so please, please, please Wegmans - come to Raleigh!!!!

Wegmans has supposedly been "working on" a store in NC for two years. It's a rumor.

I hate to disappoint you, but a Wegman family spokesman said as recently as a couple of months ago (when they expanded one of their popular, but smaller stores), that they have no plans to expand out south. Not that a move to NC wouldn't make sense--there are plenty of "snowbirds" and people from this area who've relocated there!

No, the southernmost Wegmans in the works is in Richmond, VA. I wouldn't expect a store in the Carolinas for at least another decade.

I-m-o looking at out of state wegmans locations present /past grocery stores , there really was nor is there any competition. Once wegmans ventures into the Carolinas they will start competing with established customer based groceries with upper level products. Outstanding customer service and meal deals. Even in their home state competition is lacking around area stores.

Yes, the rumor I was referring to was, indeed, about a Wegmans in NC. Virginia, which has always been part of their expansion plan, had nothing to do with it.

BTW, Danny, Colleen, and the whole tribe have always said that they have NO PLANS--10 yrs out or 20--to expand to NC, and they're vehement about it. Danny said that's not part of their "regional model."

The bad news is that Harris Teeter sold to Kroger so they are about to get worse! I couldn't stand Kroger when I lived in SC. I wanted my Hannaford back desperately. Moved back to NY - a different region - and I got Wegman's. No complaints from me now!
